New bone regenerative procedures regrow the previously lost gum and bone tissue. These procedures utilize a combination of bone regenerative proteins and freeze dried bone grafts. At times membranes are inserted over the bone grafts to further enhance the regenerative potential. Some of these membranes are bio-absorbable and some require removal. This is an exciting area of periodontal therapy and current research in this area promises to make these procedures even more successful and the standard of care in the not too distant future.
