Gum surgery is often necessary in the treatment of periodontal disease. One of the most tested and predictable methods of treating gum disease is known as” osseous surgery” or “flap and osseous surgery” and involves eliminating the gum pockets by trimming away the infected gum tissue and, at times, re-contouring the uneven bone contours.
Although this is still an effective way of treating gum disease, today, new and more sophisticated bone regenerative procedures are often used with specific patterns bone loss.
